Skimmer bream dominated the top weights at this latest championship match on Goodwins Pool when twenty two anglers competed for the Bill Wood Memorial Cup. Top weight on the day fell to Alan Beeston who weighed in 11lb 12oz of skimmers that fell to legered maggot over loose fed casters from peg 7. Most of Alan's fish were caught in the last ninety minutes of the match, a time in most matches at Goodwins Pool when anglers really have to go searching for bites. Karl O'Donoghue's catch of 8lb 5oz 2dr took second place from peg 21. Fishing pellet at 13 metres, Karl caught in two main periods of the match to finish with 15 skimmers. Mick Byram enjoys fishing the waggler on Goodwins Pool and he put that method to good effect with a third placed 6lb 6oz 11dr catch from peg 9. Maggot over caster was the successful bait and feed combination. Jonathan Smith maintained his excellent start to the season with the fourth placed catch of 4lb 11oz 7dr. Smith now has a 12 point lead in the championship after just four matches. Has he already built up an unassailable lead or will the chasing pack reel him back in over the next 10 matches? |
